times

Production Process of Large Crystal Fused Magnesia

Large crystal fused magnesia is mainly produced by melting magnesium oxide granules with MgO content of 91%–92% and particle size of 0mm–3mm in an electric arc furnace.
This product features high purity, large crystal grains, dense structure, excellent slag resistance and superior thermal shock stability. It serves as a high-temperature electrical insulating material, as well as a key raw material for manufacturing magnesia bricks, magnesia carbon bricks and monolithic refractories. It is widely applied in metallurgy, chemical industry, national defense, scientific research, aerospace, electrical appliance components and other fields.

Product Characteristics of Large Crystal Fused Magnesia

  • High purity, large crystal grains, high melting point and dense structure

  • Excellent thermal shock stability

  • Outstanding high-temperature bending strength

  • Superior slag resistance and corrosion resistance

  • High thermal conductivity and excellent electrical insulation performance

Applications of Large Crystal Fused Magnesia

  1. It acts as lining refractory for steelmaking furnaces, and is a premium alkaline refractory raw material for refractory bricks and monolithic refractories.

  2. It can be used as filler for thermocouples and thermal insulation materials for household electrical appliances.

  3. It is also applicable as ceramic raw materials and sintering additives, and widely used in metallurgy, building materials, chemical industry, national defense, medical devices and other industries.

Main Characteristics of Common Fused Magnesia

Fused magnesia features intact crystal structure, dense texture, ultra-high melting point (up to 2800°C), stable chemical properties, high compressive strength, great insulation performance, outstanding scouring resistance and corrosion resistance.
It is an essential raw material for metallurgy, building materials, light industry, furnace linings and bulk refractory mixes, and an indispensable refractory material for steel, cement, glass and non-ferrous metal smelting industries.
Fused magnesia is mainly prepared by melting magnesite ore with MgO content above 47% in an electric arc furnace.

Six Major Chemical Indicators of Fused Magnesia

  1. Magnesium Oxide (MgO) content

  2. Silicon Dioxide (SiO₂) content

  3. Ferric Oxide (Fe₂O₃) content

  4. Alumina (Al₂O₃) content

  5. Loss on Ignition (LOI)

  6. Bulk Density

Fused magnesia boasts high purity, large crystal grains, dense structure, strong slag resistance and good thermal shock stability. It is a high-temperature electrical insulating material and vital raw material for magnesia bricks, magnesia carbon bricks and unshaped refractories.

Main Applications of Fused Magnesia

Fused magnesia is widely used in auxiliary refractory materials such as gunning mixes and ramming mixes, as well as special refractory products including flow control bricks, magnesia bricks, magnesia-chrome bricks and electrical-grade magnesia powder (97% fused magnesia, 98% fused magnesia, etc.).
It can be fabricated into refractory linings for vacuum/non-vacuum induction furnaces and electric arc furnaces, and is the ideal raw material for magnesium oxide crucibles, furnace tanks and various high-temperature sleeves.
